Two longtime titans of the local automotive sector are joining forces.

Burritt Motors, 340 state Route 104 East, Oswego, is acquiring Shapiro Motors, 410 W. First St., Oswego.

While the transaction is yet to be official, Burritt Motors’ owner Richard Burritt indicated that he has been focused on completing the acquisition with the cross-town dealership.

Burritt is in full control of the dealership after his father Chris transferred ownership in the fall of 2016.

Burritt Motors, which has 49 employees, first opened for business in 1955. Chris Burritt took over the business in 1978.

Shapiro Motors, owned by Todd Shapiro, celebrated its 75th year at the same location in 2016. It employs 28 workers.
