CNY STEM Scholarship Program Opens 2023 Application Process

Partners for Education & Business, Inc. and the CNY STEM Hub announced that the CNY STEM Scholarship Program application is open to high school seniors in Central New York at www.cnystem.com

The CNY STEM Scholarship Program, endorsed by the CNY Tech Sector and the CNY STEM Hub, began in 2013. In its first 10 years, 83 scholarships have been awarded for a total of $825,000. As this program approaches the million-dollar mark, 42 of those scholarship recipients will be graduating this year, ready to join the Central New York workforce.

The program has been open to local high school seniors with STEM majors, but this year, students attending local community colleges and transferring to a four-year institution are also now eligible to apply. These efforts align with the growing need for a qualified and talented STEM workforce.

Again, local companies are offering multiple scholarships. SRC returns for its 11th year offering three scholarships. Also returning are King+King Architects, TTM Technologies, Marquardt Switches, INFICON, and Cooper Lighting.

Companies can apply to offer a scholarship through the end of March. Employers interested in offering a STEM scholarship should e-mail pebteam@macny.org

The scholarships continue to evolve because of the commitment from local employers to keep this region’s best and brightest employed right here in Central New York.

This program is win-win. Not only do the students benefit financially from the scholarships and paid internships with the companies, but the companies have an early edge attracting these students to their workforce. PEB maintains a database of all applicants and can reach out to these college students with the most sought-after STEM majors to make them aware of open positions or internships with these employers.

The deadline for applications is April 1, 2023. The process includes independent reviews of applications, academic records, letters of recommendation, a listing of honors/awards, extracurricular activities, an essay, and a personal interview.
